Mike Gminski is a retired American basketball player who played as a center in the NBA from 1980 to 1994. He was born on August 3, 1959, in Monroe, Connecticut. Gminski played college basketball at Duke University, where he was a standout player and earned All-American honors.
Gminski was selected by the New Jersey Nets with the 7th overall pick in the 1980 NBA Draft. He went on to have a successful 14-year career in the NBA, playing for the Nets, Philadelphia 76ers, Charlotte Hornets, and Milwaukee Bucks. Gminski was known for his scoring ability, rebounding, and shot-blocking skills.
Throughout his career, Gminski averaged 11.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game. He was named an NBA All-Star in 1982 and is considered one of the best centers of his era. After retiring from professional basketball, Gminski went on to work as a college basketball commentator and analyst for various media outlets.
